The presentation will cover a comparison of speed from crush calculation methods with instrumentation data in several crash tests to illustrate the accuracy, or not, of the crush speed calculations, and how much "errors" in the crush calculation effect the ultimate speed at impact that is calculated. This will be followed by some "special circumstance" calculation situations. From there, there will be a discussion of some of the problems within the NHTSA Crash Test data that can be encountered and how they can be dealt with. At the end, there will be a presentation of three case examples that illustrate why the Investigator cannot rely upon having the "black box" data and so therefore needs to continue to be aware of the "traditional" methods of crush, energy analysis, momentum, and inline momentum in order to do a proper job of Investigating and reconstructing a collision.

This full day training will be hosted in the City of Vacaville in northern California
